The Time Bend

Link was sitting around in his tree in Kokiri Forest thinking. His fairy, Navi, was out visiting the Great Deku Tree Sprout. So Link was alone. He decided to go and see his friend, Saria. As he was walking down the rode, he sensed something was……..different. Everything looked the same, but he just couldn’t figure out what wasn’t right. He shrugged it off and continued down the rode. As he neared Saria’s house, he quickened his pace. The air seemed chilly for the summer. He came to Saria’s house and went inside. He walked in, but no one was in there. ‘That’s weird,’ Link thought. Saria had been expecting him to come by. Link looked around the house for a note of some kind, but found nothing. He turned to leave. At the door was an elderly woman. “I didn’t expect a visitor today….” She said in a raspy voice. Link was completely puzzled. “Isn’t this, Saria’s house?” he asked. “Saria? Who’s Saria? I’ve been living in this house since before you were born, Link,” she replied. Link stood there, motionless. He knew something was definitely wrong.

Link rushed pass the lady and went outside into the chilly air. It seemed cooler than before. He walked briskly down the road towards Mido’s house. Despite how much Link hated him, Mido was crazy about Saria. He rushed inside Mido’s house. Mido was in there, reading a book titled: “Ten Steps to Become a Hero”. He looked up. “Why are you here!?” he demanded. “I was wondering if you have seen Saria lately,” Link replied. Mido stood up and said,” Saria? No I haven’t seen Saria! Wait….WHO IS SARIA?!” Link was baffled. He went out of Mido’s house more confused than before. He went towards his house. As he climbed up the ladder, he tried to think of the possibilities. ‘Maybe I’m in a dream?’ Nothing was making sense. How could Saria just vanish like that? Link sat down in his chair. ‘Navi should be back soon’ he thought. Just then, as if on cue, Navi flew in. “LINK! LINK! ” She yelled. She appeared crazy and frightened. “What is it Navi?” he asked, “The Great Deku Sprout……Hes…….Gone!” She said. “WHAT!” Link yelled. Things were getting really weird. Navi tried to calm down and said, “I was on my way and when I got to where he was, there was just open field! Then I asked around and everyone had no clue what I was talking about. They didn’t even know about the Great Deku Tree!” “That’s impossible!’ Link yelled. ‘What the hell is going on here…’ Link wondered.

Link and Navi were dumbfounded. “There has to be some proof that they existed, right Navi?” “Yeah, but what? Wait….THE FAIRY OCARINA!” Navi yelled. Link rushed towards his bag where he kept the items he wasn’t using. He rummaged through it. “Its gotta be in here somewhere!” Link muttered. But the ocarina wasn’t in the bag. “That’s Impossible though,” Link said, “I distinctly remember putting it in the bag last night.” Navi flew next to Link. “So theres no proof that Saria ever existed..” her voice trailed off. Link then said “But there has to be something that the Great Deku Tree gave to us to prove that the Great Deku Tree and the Deku Sprout existed!” Then they both said together, “The Store!” They rushed out of the house, running to the store. When they got inside, Link ran up to the counter. No one was there. “Hello! Anyone here?” Link called. A voice replied, “yeah, I’m here!” Link and Navi stared at each other puzzled. “Where….d-did that voice come from?” Navi stammered. “I’m right here Idiots!” the voice said again. Link then said, “Hey! Wait a minute!” He jumped over the counter. As he was landing the voice said, “HEY WATCH IT!” Link landed on the other side. Navi flew over. Standing on the other side was the shortest Kokiri they had ever seen. “Woah! Your really short!” Link exclaimed. The Kokiri said, “Thank You Captain Obvious!” “What’s your name?” Navi asked. “Oh, it’s Roaku…Wait, how can you not know my name. I’ve been working here for over three years now!” “You have!?” said Navi, surprised. “Yes I have! What a terrible place this is! That cheapskate Mido comes along and steals my stool, and now no one remembers me!” replied Roaku. “What happened to the old owner of the store?” Link asked. Roaku said, “He sold me this trashy business three years ago!” Link was completely baffled and just stopped talking. Then Navi remembered why they had come to the store in the first place. “How much for 5 Deku nuts and 5 Deku Sticks?” she asked. Roaku looked confused. “Deku what? Is this some sort of joke or prank? It isn’t funny!” Link stepped in. “Oh sure! We live to pull pranks on midget like store owners!” Roaku got annoyed then. “That’s it! Get out of my Store!”

Link and Navi hurried out of the store. They walked along the rode. It was really cold then. “How can it be this cold in the summer!?” Navi exclaimed. Link rushed into his house and put on another tunic. It was getting cold. Then Link stopped with his tunic halfway pulled over his head and yelled, “The thephal oth Tim!” “Come again?” Navi said. “Link pulled the tunic all the way on and said, “The Temple of Time!” “That’s it!” Navi exclaimed “The Spiritual Stone is there that the Great Deku Tree gave us is there!” With that Link got his things ready. He packed his items while Navi went down to the store to buy four blue potions. Link got his stuff ready and waited outside for Navi. It was taking her a long time to get back. Finally, Navi came back carrying four bottles filled with….not blue potions. “Sorry I’m late!” Navi said, “But they only sell purple potions at the store!” Link looked at Navi, “Purple Potions? What do they do?” Navi dropped the potions in Link’s bag. “He didn’t say. But they were pricey!” They then left.

They neared the tunnel that lead out of Kokiri Forest. They entered the tunnel, both deep in their own thoughts. As they were crossing the bridge, a loud crack sounded in the air. Link looked up and gasped. There was a purple, swirling vortex and out of it was coming a weird creature. It looked like a bunch of the enemies Link had defeated. It had four legs, a mighty, spiked tail, skin that looked as tough as armor, and one big, bloodshot eye. Navi froze. The creature opened it’s mouth wide, and shot a fireball out at the bridge. Link jumped off the bridge and Navi followed. “Uh oh!” Navi said. Link grabbed his Kokiri sword out of it’s sheath. He charged at the thing and struck one of it’s legs. His sword deflected off of it harmlessly. Link jumped away as it swung it’s massive foot towards Link. Navi was up in the air, observing the monster’s weak spots. Link shot an arrow at it’s eye, but just before the arrow reached it, the creature swatted it away with its paws. It then reared up on both legs. Navi rushed back down. “Link!” she cried, “His stomach doesn’t have tough skin and there is a small part of his back that looks different from the rest. The monster opened its mouth wide and was rearing up for a fireball, when Link threw a bomb into his mouth. The creature spit it out into a tree and the tree erupted into a thousand splinters. “Ok. That didn’t work!’ Link exclaimed. He then quickly shot an arrow into the things stomach while it was brushing away a few pieces of wood. The creature roared and fell on its stomach, plunging the arrow deeper. Link ran up and slashed it’s eye with his sword. The creature was now practically whimpering. Link jumped up onto the thing just as it got up. It couldn’t see, and it’s armored back prevented it from feeling Link. Link frantically searched for the different looking part of the back. He found it, and thrust his sword into it! The creature roared, then fell limp. Link jumped off, panting.

Link and Navi backed away from it. Suddenly, a voice surrounded them saying, “Well done, but next time you won’t be so lucky!” With that, the creature was sucked into another purple swirling mass and with a loud crack, disappeared. Link breathed a sigh of relief. “That was close!” Navi said. Then she said, “Who do you think that voice was?” Link said “I think it might be Ganon, but he’s sealed up,” They didn’t know. Link spotted a cool, blue stream behind them. Link cleaned off his sword and got a drink. “How do we get back up?” asked Navi. Link looked up at the severed rope bridge and said, “Oh I think I know how,” Link walked under where the rope bridge had been and took out his hook shot. He used his hook shot and shot his way up onto the posts that supported the bridge. He and Navi continued on to Hyrule Castle.

As they were walking out into the opening, a voice called out, “Whooo. Where are you going?” “Oh God, not this again,” Link muttered. He and Navi looked up and saw the Owl. “Do you know anything about what is going on?” Link asked. “Hoot! No I don’t, but there is a great evil afoot!” The Owl said. Link grinned, searching through his bag for something. He finally replied “Yeah, we figured that out!” He then pulled out his bow and arrow and shot the owl. “Hoot!” was his last word. “YOU KILLED THE OWL!” Navi yelled. Link looked at her and said, “Yeah, and I should have done it a lot sooner too!” “Oh well..” Navi said. They continued on through the field towards Hyrule castle.
